Two former lacrosse coaches at a suburban Columbus high school have been sentenced to jail terms of a month or less for assaulting a player on a bus trip.
Twenty-seven-year-old Dustin Pentz and 29-year-old Greg Simpson were convicted of misdemeanor assault charges in August. Felony counts of aggravated rape were dropped.
Simpson was sentenced to 15 days in jail, while Pentz received a 30-day sentence in Shelby County Criminal Court in Memphis, Tenn.
The former lacrosse player with Dublin Coffman High School told police in 2006 that he was accosted on the chartered bus in Memphis, held down and assaulted with a gloved hand.
An attorney for Simpson has said the incident was horseplay.
Pentz had faced up to a year in jail while Simpson had faced up to six months.
