Spiritual zombies need to be gone

When a loved one dies, it makes us sad. However, death symbolizes tremendous spiritual truth. When someone dies he or she stays dead.

All of my sons love zombie movies. When Michael was younger, the movies confused him. He did not understand what was real and what was fantasy. He would ask me, “Dad are zombies real?” I would reply, “No, Michael zombies are not real.”

Zombies are not real in the natural realm and they should not be real in the spiritual realm.

The Bible teaches that Christians are to live in a continual state of death so that the continual life of Christ might be manifested.

In 2 Corinthians we read, “Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our bodies.”

When discussing zombies with Michael, the topic of resurrection came up.

I told him that there will be a day when all those that are dead in Christ will come back to life again. Needless to say, this really got him confused.

He reasoned, “If zombies are make- believe, won’t those that are part of the resurrection be zombies?”

Many Christians are also confused about zombies.

Salvation does not bring a dead person back to life. Salvation causes a person (the old man) to die. The old man is never to come back to life. It is to remain dead.

A completely new man materializes.

It is nothing like the man or woman that died. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are new.”

Many confused Christians try to resurrect the old man and wonder why they can’t live the Christian life.

They become spiritual zombies feeding on the flesh which is enmity toward God.

They don’t understand that God does not want a zombie but a completely new person.

A new person that feeds on the things of God through the power of the Holy Spirit that has been given to it.

Ephesians 2:10 describes this new creature created by rebirth. It reads, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

This new man does not do evil but good. It also is righteous and holy. “And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

In the movies people try to kill the zombies. If you are a Christian and the old man has come back to life, you are a spiritual zombie.

The zombie must be killed and never allowed to live again.

Understand that there is a new man that God has created. Live in its life and you will find victory. Colossians 3:10 reveals this truth, “…put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”

This Halloween may we be successful in killing the zombies.
