HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The sour economy is taking a toll on a West Virginia steel plant, as it joins others in the region in laying off workers.

Steel of West Virginia chief Tim Duke says his company laid off 52 workers at its Huntington plant this week, bringing the number of workers there to 373.

Duke says steel orders have dropped dramatically across the industry, but he expects the layoffs to be temporary.
