Marshall University men’s basketball coach Donnie Jones announced today that Brandon Powell, a redshirt sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., has been dismissed from the team effective immediately due to a violation of team policy.

“I’d like to thank Brandon for his hard work the last two years,” Jones said. “He’s a great kid and I wish him nothing but the best in his future.”

Powell transferred to Marshall from Florida following the 2006-07 season and sat out the 2007-08 campaign due to NCAA transfer regulations. In four games with the Thundering Herd this season, Powell averaged 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 21.0 minutes per game.
