A fire that destroyed a car and damaged the carport and garage of an Ironton residence is probably accidental, firefighters said.

Ironton Fire Inspector Mike Mahlmeister said firefighters were called to 2619 S. 12th St. at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday in regard to a car fire.

The fire, he said, appeared to have started in the engine block but spread to the carport and garage that were attached to the house.

Fire Chief Tom Runyon said while the house did sustain some smoke damage, most of the fire damage was contained to the exterior of the house and the carport.

The homeowner, Paul Haas, was at home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
