Kevin Tiggs might not be a candidate for the game show “Jeopardy,” but he had an answer for everything Marshall did.

Every time the Thundering Herd made a move, Tiggs scored some of his career-high 31 points to lead the East Tennessee State Buccaneers to a 76-72 win over Marshall Tuesday.

Marshall (2-4) trailed most of the game and when they finally took the lead, it was Tiggs with the help of Jarvis Jones that rallied the Bucs past the Herd.

Down 42-33 at the half, Marshall went on a 13-4 run to start the second half and tied the game at 46-46.

Damier Pitts hit a trey and Marshall had its first lead since the 4:51mark of the first half.

Jones drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game and Tiggs scored with 2:15 left to play to give ETSU the lead for good.

“(East Tennessee State) made some big plays downs the stretch,” said Herd coach Donnie Jones. “I thought we had a shot down the stretch to make some plays and they did, we didn’t.

“We have to continue improving. Obviously, we’re playing with some young guards as well and once we get some guys back healthy, it’s going to help out our basketball team. Good news. We’ve got three days to get ready for our next game.”

ETSU coach Murry Bartow sighed with relief to leave the Henderson Center with a win.

“I thought (Marshall) could really hurt us inside and we were concerned, so we played some zones,” said Bartow. “It’s a good win for us. I like what Donnie (Jones) does with his team. It could’ve gone either way and I’m just happy it went our way.”

Marshall had four players in double figures as Markel Humphrey scored 14, Pitts 11, Wilkerson 10 and Tirrell Baines had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Besides Tiggs, Mike Smtih scored 16.
