Everybody just calm down.

That was the message from coach Dave Adams as the South Point Lady Pointers held off the New Boston Lady Tigers 63-56 Saturday.

South Point led by as many as 14 points before some 3-point shooting and Pointer foul trouble helped get New Boston back in the game.

“For a first game, it was okay. We played with some jitters and they shot the ball well. They hit nine 3s and that’s what kept them in the game,” said Adams. “But we were able to settle down and make some plays at the end.”

Making some key plays for south Point was sophomore guard Kayla Fletcher. She scored 10 points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-4 at the foul line over the final minute to seal the win.

Fletcher finished with a solid all-around game as she scored 18 points, dished out five assists and came up with seven steals.

South Point forced New Boston into 26 turnovers to help offset the Lady Tigers 9-for-16 shooting from behind the arc.

Ashley Goodall and Ericka Leighty had 12 points each for South Point (1-0). Allison Mitchell grabbed 10 rebounds and Jalynn Bradburn six.

New Boston (3-1) was led by Missy Buckley with 21 points including five 3-pointers. Kayla Wiley scored 15 points and Mycharal Hamilton 10.

Fletcher scored six and Goodall had five points including a 3-pointer as the Lady Pointers went up 18-12 in the first quarter.

Goodall duplicated her scoring effort in the second quarter with another trey and it was 29-24 at the break.

Six different Lady Pointers scored in the third quarter as the lead remained at 43-38.
