You should have seen the one that got away. Literally.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings had a 43-40 lead with time running out in regulation, but in a mad scramble the ball got away and East’s Jessica McCallister grabbed the ball and hit a 3-pointer with six seconds left.

With the game in overtime, the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans got past the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings 57-54 Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We had it and then it go away,” said Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant.

“The kids played hard the entire game and we had a lot of opportunities in overtime to win this game and came up short.”

Symmes Valley had three different chances at the foul line over the final 1:28 in overtime but could not convert.

The hard-fought battle saw seven players foul out. East was 18-of-35 at the line and Symmes Valley 14-of-35.

“Free throws were the problem for us tonight. We were ice cold from the line,” said Bryant. “We know we are a much-improved team this year and we keep chipping away and correcting our mistakes which are correctable.

“Nikki Nance came off the bench and did a great job for us tonight especially on the defensive end.”

Jessie Morris led the Lady Vikings with 17 points before fouling out. She had five points in each the second and fourth quarters.

Megan Williams scored 16 points for East including 7-of-10 from the line in overtime. McCallister had finished with 13 points.
