An Ironton residence is being called a total loss after fire ravaged it Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the 1114 S. 11th St. home of the Matt Thomas family just after 4 p.m.

“The fire is still under investigation but is appears to have started in the rear of the downstairs and spread to the attic,” Ironton Fire Capt. Craig Thomas said.

Those who were in the house at the time of the fire did escape safely.

Firefighters remained on the scene until approximately 8 p.m.
