Huntington, W.Va. — United Way of the River Cities’ 2008 fundraising campaign is set to close Dec. 31, 2008, however it is currently short $294,000 of its $1.5 million goal. At 80 percent, the campaign is approximately 7 percent behind the same date in 2007.

“The reality of not meeting this year’s goal is that lives in our community could be affected,” said Laura Gilliam, executive director of United Way. “While this has been a tough year for everyone, it is even more so for those with limited resources.”

Members of the community can help United Way reach its goal by making a pledge (payable anytime in 2009) or by contributing by cash/check.
