The Green Lady Bobcats are wondering what might have been.

After a slow start, the Lady Bobcats put together a strong second half only to fall short in their upset bid of the New Boston Lady Tigers Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Green (7-5, 6-3) fell behind 14-6 in the first quarter, took the lead in the third quarter couldn’t hold on.

“We got off to a sluggish start but we battled back. It went back and forth until the end,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

“Offensively we didn’t play well the first half, but I was pleased with our defense. We just talked about being more patient and not rushing ourselves.”

Adrianne Blankenship, who scored 11 points in the first half as Green trailed 25-18, scored eight points in the third quarter and Ashlee Runyon had all five of her points as the Lady Bobcats took a 35-34 lead.

Blankenship scored nine more in the fourth quarter, but New Boston was 10-of-15 from the line as Alyssa Raines went 4-for-4 and Kayla Wiley 4-for-5.

Blankenship had a huge game with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lauren Jones grabbed 11 rebounds and had four assists.

Missy Buckley led New Boston with 14 points. Raines and Wiley had 13 each.

“Gidget Timberman is only a freshman but she did a nice job on Wiley. She only had seven points until the fourth quarter,” said Royse.

“We didn’t have a lot of turnovers, but we turned it over at crucial times.”
