The Symmes Valley Vikings did all but one thing. Okay, make that two things.

The Vikings did virtually everything they planned except make foul shots and that led to the second missed item, beating the Sciotoville East Tartans.

Symmes Valley was able to convert just 15-of-31 free throw attempts and lost 76-72 to the Sciotoville East Tartans Tuesday.

“We did everything we wanted to do, we just didn’t make our free throws,” said Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter. “We shot well, we did a good job on the boards, and were forced them into some turnovers. It came down to free throws.”

The Vikings — 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the SOC — have lost four games this season when they out-shot their opponent from the field but got beat at the foul line.

“We’re putting teams on the line too much and we’re not making our free throws when we get there,” said Carpenter.

Zach Rawlins had seven points as East took a 20-15 lead in the first quarter. Luke Taylor kept the Vikings close with eight points.

The Tartans were up 34-24 at the half as John Garrett hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Kris Tibbs scored 15 points in the third quarter as the Vikings rallied to get within 51-45.

Tibbs scored 15 more points in the fourth quarter, but Rawlins connected on 7-of-8 from the line in the final 1:30 of the game.

Tibbs finished with a career-high 37 points and also had 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. Taylor finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Josh Craft added 11 points.

Rawlins led Eastwith 24 points and Garrett had 13 points.
