Rock Hill makes crucial free throws to beat Rebels

The Rock Hill Redmen made it look easy.

With South Gallia forced to foul, the Redmen took advantage by making key free throws in a 58-54 win over the Rebels on Tuesday.

The Redmen converted 14-of-16 free throws for the game including 9-of-10 over the final two minutes.

“When you hit free throws and get rebounds, you make this game pretty simple,” said Rock Hill coach Adam Simpson.

The game featured 21 lead changes and 12 ties. Rock Hill’s biggest lead was four and South Gallia led by six at the end of the first quarter.

Rock Hill(5-7) trailed 51-49 with 2:20 to play when Sam Cooke hit two free throws to tie the game.

After a South Gallia missed shot, Dustin Chander got the rebounds and Luke Simpson was fouled with 1:40 to play. Simpson hit both shots to put the Redmen up for good.

Jeremy Blagg made two free throws with 50 seconds left as the lead went to 55-51. The Rebels hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 55-54. Simpson hit two more foul shots with 14 seconds to play for a 57-54 lead.

Chandler made a fould shot with four seconds on the clock to seal the win.

“That was a good win. South Gallia is a tough matchup. They always have been a tough matchup for us,” said coach Simpson.

Cooke led Rock Hill with 16 points, 12 in the second half. Luke Simpson scored 13 and Chandler had 11.
