Panthers rip Wayne

Chesapeake turned in one of its best defensive performances of the season as the Panthers routed the Wayne Pioneers 61-32 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Huntington St. Joseph Invitational at Memorial Field House.

“To give up 19 points in three quarters is a good effort. We guarded pretty well,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis.

Nathan Copley had 12 points and Kyle Webb 11 to lead a balanced offense for the Panthers (7-3) who play rival Fairland at 9 p.m. Friday in the SJI championship.

Chesapeake led 11-5 after the first quarter and 26-9 at the break. The lead was 47-19 after three quarters and the junior varsity finished the game.
