The only thing standing in Coal Grove’s way for a showdown with South Point for the Ohio Valley Conference championship game was the River Valley Lady Raiders.

They didn’t stand in the way very long.

Coal Grove raced to a 22-point first half lead and never looked back en route to a 65-40 win on Monday.

The Lady Hornets (16-3, 8-1) will now host OVC leader South Point (9-0) on Wednesday needing a win to gain a share of the title.

“I told the seniors it’s an accomplishment to play in the championship four years in a row,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller.

Coal Grove took a 21-9 first quarter lead as Abby Nance scored the game’s first basket and then Jordyn Cox hit four 3-pointers and Chelsea Delong got seven points.

Cox hit two more treys and scored 10 points in the second quarter while Delong scored nine to give the Lady Hornets a 42-20 halftime cushion.

“They threw a bunch of different defenses at us and we moved the ball and got some good looks and made our shots,” said Miller.

The lead was 51-30 after three quarters and Delong scored five points early in the fourth quarter as Coal Grove outscored the Lady Raiders 14-10.

“We had a really good first half and then we just moved along in the second half,” said Miller.

Cox finished with 26 points and Delong scored 23.

Brooke Marcum had 10 points for River Valley.
