Things got a little too technical for the St. Joseph Flyers.

With the game tied at 41-41, Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan was whistled for two quick technical fouls. The Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans made 3-of-6 foul shots to take the lead for good en route to a 57-52 win on Wednesday.

St. Joseph was coming off a 60-58 last-second win on Tuesday at New Boston. Sheridan was expecting another tough game against the Titans.

“We knew there would be a letdown coming off a big win at New Boston. We didn’t shoot that well, but we were still in the game with a chance to win,” said Sheridan.

Notre Dame made just two field goals in the fourth quarter, but they converted 18-of-29 from the foul line in the quarter. The Titans were 25-of-41 for the game at the line.

Chad Harvey scored six points and Joe Unger five as the Flyers took a 13-11 lead.

Five different players scored in the second quarter but the Titans managed to tie the game at the half, 25-25.

Harvey got eight more points in the third quarter as St. Joseph went up 39-35 after three quarters.

But the Titans rallied to outscore the Flyers 22-13 in the fourth quarter despite eight points by Harvey.

Harvey finished with 25 points and eight rebounds to lead St. Joseph (9-9).

The Flyers travel to South Webster on Saturday and play South Gallia at 6:15 p.m. on Monday at Wellston in the Division IV sectional tournament.
