The Chesapeake Panthers wrapped up the Ohio Valley Conference championship on Friday. They put an exclamation point after it on Saturday.

The Panthers showed no signs of a letdown as they rolled past the River Valley Raiders 87-57 to finish the regular season 16-4 and 8-2 in the OVC.

Nathan Copley and Kyle Webb combined for 50 points to lead the Chesapeake offense. Copley had 26 points including three 3-pointers while Webb hit four treys as he scored 24 points.

Peter Hintz also reached double figures for the Panthers with 15 points.

“We shot the ball well and we defended pretty well, especially when you consider we had such an emotional and physical game (Friday) night,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis.

Chesapeake will now play in the Division III sectional tournament at 6 p.m. on Friday at Jackson High School against the winner of Monday’s game between Belpre and River Valley.

Copley scored 10 points and Webb eight in the first quarter as Chesapeake zoomed to a 25-12 lead.

The Panthers continued their hot scoring as they opened up a 45-26 halftime cushion.

Webb came back to score seven points in the third quarter and the Panthers extended the lead to 67-41.

Copley got seven more points early in the fourth quarter to counter six points by River Valley’s Clayton Curnutte.

Curnutte led River Valley (7-13, 3-7) with 19 points. Zac Deel added 14 and Kody Johnson 10.
