Gomes’ GS lifts Reds over Bosox

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Johnny Gomes hit a grand slam and Jay Bruce and Edwin Encarnacion added two-run homers as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox 9-8.

The Red Sox also hit three homers — two-run shots by Paul McAnulty and Mark Wagner and a solo shot by Chris Carter — in Tuesday’s exhibition game.

Boston starter Jon Lester pitched two perfect innings. Ramon Ramirez took the loss after allowing four runs in the fourth. The Reds other five runs came in the seventh off Wes Littleton.
