Lawrence W. “Bill” Justice, 84, formerly of Ironton, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Florence, Ala., where he resided with his wife, Jean Matheny Justice. He was born Aug. 7, 1924, to the late Lawrence E. and Vernon L. Munyan Justice.
Bill was a WWII Navy veteran; a member of the US Navy LST Association and a life member of the VFW Post 8850 in Ironton. He served on the Lawrence County Fair Board for 21 years and retired after 25 years as an electrician at the Ashland Oil Refinery No. 2 in Catlettsburg, Ky. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, Kentucky Colonels, and American Legion Post 0008 in Lexington, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Munyan Justice; a son Thomas M. Justice; a brother Maurice “Hoot” Justice; and a sister Virginia Justice Pope.
He is survived by three daughters, Sonja D. Weddle of Lexington, Ky., Penny Sue Strunk of Ironton; and Joan L. Zarth of Lexington; a stepson, Dwight Daniel; stepdaughter: Diane White of Florence; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Woodland Cemetery with visitation for family and friends Thursday after 10:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.
