Seven area players named to AP All-Ohio team

The Lucky Seven.

Any coach would be lucky to have the seven area boys basketball players who were named Tuesday to the Associated Press All-Ohio team.

Ironton St. Joseph 6-foot-2 senior guard Chad Harvey was a third team selection in Division IV and Chesapeake’s 6-foot senior guard Kyle Webb was third team in Division III.

Named to the special mention list were Ironton’s 6-foot-5 senior Michael Lamb and 5-10 senior guard Chase Kratzenberg of South Point in Division III while Symmes Valley 6-3 junior forward Kris Tibbs earned a similar honor in Division IV.

Selected to the honorable mention list in Division III was 6-foot- senior guard Cole Hatfield of Fairland and 6-foot sophomore guard Nathan Copley of Chesapeake.

Harvey, a first team selection last year, averaged 24 points, 7.1 rebound, 3.0 assists and steals per game, and shot 51 percent from the field and 71 from the foul line.

Webb scored at a 20.3 clip and averaged 4.6 rebounds. He shot 44 percent from the floor and 71 at the line.

Lamb was All-Ohio for the second straight year. Switching to the post after playing forward last year, Lamb averaged 11.6 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 55 percent from the field and 70 from the line.

Kratzenberg averaged 17.1 points and 3.4 assists while hitting 45 percent of his shots, 87 percent from the line and 37 from 3-point range.

Hatfield had a stellar all-around career with more than 1,000 points, 500 assists and 300 rebounds. He averaged 12 points per game this season.

Tibbs posted big numbers with 24.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest.

Copley scored at a 17.4 clip and grabbed 7.1 rebounds to go with 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals. He shot 40 percent from the field and 78 from the line.

Norm Persin, who guided Oak Hill to the Division IV state tournament, was selected as one of three Coach of the Year honorees. It was Persin’s first selection as the AP top coach in the state.

Persin coached 21 seasons at Chesapeake before returning to Oak Hill three years ago.
