Margaret G. McClaskey, 94, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at a local health care center. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 1, 1914, the daughter of the late George and Bessie Webb Vencill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas McClaskey, who passed away Feb. 27, 1996.
Mrs. McClaskey lived her entire life in the Ironton area. She was employed as a cook for 27 years with the Rock Hill School System and the CAO.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David McClaskey; a sister, Pauley Vencill; and two brothers, Rans Vencill and Robert Vencill.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Emerson Jenkins of Hecla; a
son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Gladys McClaskey of Hecla; six grandchildren, Rick McClaskey of Pedro, Dana Justice of Patriot, Paula Morris of Hecla, Cathy Swed of Florida, Mark Jenkins of California, and Shawn McClaskey of Pine Grove; several great grandchildren; a brother, Ford “Pete” Vencill of Ironton; a sister, Judith McCann of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
