SOUTH CHARLESTON, Ohio — Glen A. McCarty, 84, of South Charleston, Ohio died Friday, March 27, 2009.
He was born on July 14, 1924, in Paintsville, Ky., a son of Virgil and Virgie (Osborne) McCarty. Glen was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Greasy Ridge since 1951 and was a member at Forest Valley Baptist Church for 36 years.
He was an original founder and lead singer for the Sacred Aires Quartet. He taught Bible study and was an avid storyteller. Glen was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was a carpenter his whole life. He loved woodworking and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Waugh) McCarty; brothers, Edward, James, William, and Ken McCarty; sisters, Geneva Holder and Audrey Corn; and brothers-in-law, Hershel Roach and Schug Corn.
He is also survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cathy McCarty, Randy and Maria McCarty, and John and Gwen McCarty; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna and Emerson Bruce, Rita and Bob McClure, Kay and Bob Lanham, and Teresa and Paul (Sonny) Mounts; brother and sister-in-law, Burnice and Verne McCarty; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Roach and Carol Ruth and Bob Wood; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Glen’s life will be 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Valley Baptist Church with Pastors Dell Wallace and Mike Mounts officiating.
Burial will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Jackson Lytle Williams Funeral Home in Springfield. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.jacksonlytle.com.
