Chesy girls blank HSJ

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Allison Chapman doesn’t mind working overtime.

Chapman pitched an eight-inning one-hitter as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers blanked the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Fighting Irish 3-0 Monday.

“It was a heck of a game. St. Joe has a good pitcher and some good players. Our girls played well and Chapman pitched a great game,” said Lady Panthers coach Aaron Rice.

Chapman struck out 18 and walked just two in getting the win.

In the eighth inning the game went to the international rules.

Sarah Rice was placed on second base to start the inning. An out later, Chapman walked and Rice later scored on a wild pitch.

Chapman went to second, Nikki Lindsey put down a sacrifice bunt, and the run scored when Sarah Mayo reach on an error. Sidney Boyle then walked and Courtney Heffner had a run-scoring single.

The Lady Panthers visit Portsmouth West Tuesday.
