CHESAPEAKE — No. 2 pitched like No. 1.

Sidney Boyle is Chesapeake’s second pitcher, but her performance was second to none Thursday as she pitched the Lady Panthers to an 8-1 win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans.

Boyle fired a four-hitter as she struck out 14 and walked four in going the distance to keep Chesapeake unbeaten.

“Sidney throws the ball pretty good. The hard thing is getting her time on the mound when you have a pitcher like (Allison) Chapman,” said Lady Panthers coach Aaron Rice.

Chesapeake snapped a scoreless tie with a run in the second inning when Casey Kirk had a two-out single and Myky Harmon doubled.

The lead went to 2-0 in the third inning on a triple by Chapman and Nikki Lindsey’s ground out.

After the Lady Titans got a run in the top of the fourth inning, Chesapeake came back with five in their half of the frame.

Kirk doubled to start the inning, Harmon was safe on an error, and Sarah Rice walked to load the bases. Chapman doubled for two runs and Lindsey singled home two more.

A dropped line drive off the bat of Courtney Heffner scored the fifth run.

The final run came in the fifth inning.

Harmon had a one-out single, Rice singled for her first career hit to send Harmon to third base. Rice went to second base on the return throw from the outfield that got loose and allowed Harmon to score.

Chapman was 2-4 while Kirk and Harmon went 2-3 as Chesapeake collected 10 hits.

Chesapeake (3-0) hosts Huntington, W.Va., Friday and Wayne, W.Va., in a doubleheader on Saturday.
