FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. —Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contractors will inspect the Carl D. Perkins Bridge at South Shore next week, April 6-10.
The bridge, which carries US 23 across the Ohio River to Portsmouth, is nearly 3,000 feet long and consists of 14 steel spans. Entran, a Lexington engineering firm, will visually inspect girders and beams, connections, joints and the road surface to ensure they meet current safety standards.
Crews will close the road “shoulders” on the bridge to perform inspections each day.
No travel lanes will be closed, but motorists should watch for narrowed lanes.
Work should finish by April 10, but could extend into the week of April 13 depending on the weather.
