PROCTORVILLE — It’s some fun times with a serious end result. That would be the two upcoming events sponsored by the Proctorville Woman’s Club. Proceeds for both will go toward the club’s entry in the upcoming Relay for Life, a fund-raiser for cancer research.

For the past six years the woman’s club has participated in the Relay with their Colorful Cuties team where members dress up in fun-colored wigs with T-shirts that match.

“We are rather splashy,” Helen Galligan, captain of the Cuties, said. “We started out small and just got hooked doing the Relay as a group. Several of us are cancer survivors.”

On Sunday, May 3, the club will host a ladies tea from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ohio University Proctorville. The dressy affair will feature finger foods and specialty teas. Mary Stephens, a club member and cancer survivor, will be the guest speaker.

On Saturday, April 18, the club will hold a Bunco party from 2 to 4 p.m.

“Bunco is a very simple dice game and you don’t need any experience,” Galligan said. “It is really, really simple. It’s a real social time for the ladies, a lot of time laughing and talking.”

There will be first, second, third prizes given out as well as a booby prize.

For two years the club’s Relay team has been honored as a silver contributor, raising $2,500, and once they were named gold for bringing in $5,000 for the cancer research cause.

“We enjoy doing the fund-raisers. We do rummage sales, teas, Bunco and the night of the Relay we will probably sell funnel cakes and steak sandwiches,” Galligan said. “We will also sell luminaries to honor people who have cancer or memorialize those who have passed away.”

Reservations for the ladies tea must be made by April 28, by calling Porcshia Davis at 886-5800. The cost is $25 per person. The cost for Bunco is $10 a person.
