IRONTON — Ironton City Schools received a favorable audit Tuesday from Auditor of State Mary Taylor marking the second consecutive year the district earned a clean review.

In its 57-page report, Taylor’s office wrote that her office didn’t identify any findings for recovery for the district. The audit covered July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.

The last time Ironton City Schools were issued a finding by the auditor of state was for the 2005-2006 fiscal year when more than $24,000 in ticket gate receipts from football and boys basketball could not be substantiated.

In 2002, then auditor Jim Petro issued findings on the district for allowing seven funds to carry negative balances throughout most of the 2001 school year and the misappropriation of 25 accounts throughout the district.

Petro also issued a finding the same year following the arrest and subsequent conviction of Elizabeth Keating for embezzling more than $90,000 from the Ironton High School Band Booster account.

Besides Ironton, Taylor released 2008 audit reports for Symmes Valley School District who also received favorable status with zero findings.

Official audits of Dawson-Bryant schools for 2008 were conducted by the outside auditing firm of Kelley, Galloway & Company, PSC and were accepted by Taylor in lieu of the ones administered by her office.
