AID — Erica Corn didn’t do it all, but she did all she could.

Corn pitched a five-hitter and drove in two runs as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings blanked the Beaver Eastern Lady Eagles 5-0 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Corn struck out five and did not walk a batter as the Lady Vikings improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the SOC.

“Corn had a nice appearance at the plate. When she pitched she kept the ball low and kept them off-balance so they couldn’t sit on her fastball. She did a nice job,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie’ Estep.

Julie Carter doubled to start the inning and scored on a hit by Corn. Nikki Nance singled, Jessie Morris hit into a fielder’s choice, and Cheslea Wall had a two-run double.

The Lady Vikings added a pair of runs in the sixth inning.

Libby Ash singled, moved up on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a hit by Kayla Ross. Carter was safe on an error, a wild pitch sent Ross to third, and Corn hit a sacrifice fly.

FRANKLIN FURNACE — If pitching and defense are the keys to winning, no wonder the Green Lady Bobcats are opening the doors to victory.

Ali Thompson pitched a one-hitter and Green didn’t make an error in a 4-0 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans on Wednesday.

“Defensively we played pretty well again and Ali threw a great game,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

Thompson struck out nine and walked four in going the distance.

Green broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third inning when Cassidy Skaggs was safe on an error and Abbey Barrett ripped an RBI double.

The Lady Bobcats got three runs in the fourth inning.

Destiny Skaggs, Taylor Stevens and Breanna Johnson all reached on errors for a run. Adrianne Blankenship had a run-scoring single and later scored on a passed ball.

Thompson was 2-4 as Green collected four hits.
