AID — It was the battle of the best.

Green’s Ali Thompson pitched a two-hitter to get the better of Symmes Valley’s Libby Ash as the Lady Bobcats blanked the Lady Vikings 2-0 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Thompson struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. Ash fanned four, walked one, gave up six hits and both runs were unearned.

“It was a heck of a game. It was just what you would expect,” said Green coach Dale Royse. “Both pitchers did a good job and our defense played well again. They just made a few mistakes and we capitalized.”

Green scored the game’s only runs in the sixth inning.

Abbey Barrett walked, Tiffany Stoneking grounded out as Barrett went to second base. Destiny Skaggs grounded out as Barrett went to third. Taylor Stevens reached on an error as the run scored.

Breanna Johnson reached on an error allowing Stevens to score.

Green (3-0, 3-0) plays Alexander at 2 p.m. and Russell, Ky., at 6 p.m. on Friday in the Lady Vikings’ Valley of Thunder.

Symmes Valley (3-2, 2-1) plays Alexander at noon and Southern at 4 p.m. on Friday.
