Vikings notch two SOC wins

AID — It looks like the Symmes Valley Vikings have found their offense.

For the second straight game, the Vikings scored in double digits and got a mercy rule win as they beat the Green Bobcats 12-0 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Cody Bland went 4-4 with a home run and a double to lead a 13-hit attack. Robbie Powell was 3-4, Jeremy Hatfield had two doubles and Luke Taylor also homered.

“We’re hitting the ball like we’re capable. We finally came to life the last couple of games,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The Vikings got two runs in the first inning when Powell singled, Bland doubled and Hatfield doubled them home.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third.

Bland homered to start the inning. Dustin Wilson and J.J. Huff were hit by pitches and Cody Myers had an RBI single.

Symmes Valley exploded for eight runs in the fourth.

Tyler Easthom was hit by a pitch and Powell and Bland singled for a run. Hatfield doubled home a run and Luke Taylor cranked a three-run homer.

Wilson then doubled, Huff singled, Gage Patterson walked, Easthom was hit by a pitch and Powell and Bland each singled.

Symmes Valley (4-1, 3-0) hosts Western on Monday.

Vikings 11, Eagles 1

AID — Jeremy Hatfield pitched a 4-hitter and had two hits as the Symmes Valley Vikings beat the Eastern Eagles 11-1 in five innings on Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

After Eastern got a run in the first inning, the Vikings tied the game in the second inning when Luke Taylor singled stole second and scored on a hit by Dustin Wilson.

The Vikings took the lead with three runs in the third inning.

Tyler Easthom reached on an error, stole second and Robbie Powell had an RBI single. Powell stole second and Cody Bland had a run-scoring single. Bland then stole second and Hatfield had and RBI hit.

The Vikings broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning using five hits and a walk. Dusty Wilson had a two-run double and Powell had a two-run single.

In the fifth, Cody Myers walked, moved up on two wild pitches, and Easthom hit a sacrifice fly to end the game.
