AID — Ali Thompson can do a lot with just a little.

Green was only able to muster one run, but it was enough for Thompson who pitched a no-hitter as the Lady Bobcats blanked the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets 1-0 during the annual Valley of Thunder softball classic on Saturday.

“With Thompson pitching, if we score one, we’ve got a chance to win. She was one walk away from a perfect game,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

Thompson struck out 12 and the only base runner came on a walk.

Green managed five hits with two coming in the fifth inning when Green scored the game’s only run.

“We hit the ball, we just didn’t hit it solid. We only struck out four times,” said Royse.

In the fifth inning, Ashlee Runyon reached on an error, Thompson singled to put runners on the corners and Cassidy Skaggs delivered a run-scoring single.

Skaggs was 2-3 while Abbey Barrett, Lauren Jones and Thompson had the other Green hits.

The Lady Bobcats lost their own heartbreaker against Division I Gahanna Lincoln, 2-0, in their second game of the day.

The Lady Lions scored both their runs in the sixth inning on a walk, a passed ball, a single and a bunt single.

Thompson allowed only three hits in taking the loss. She struck out eight and walked one.

Barrett and Breanna Johnson had the only hits for Green.
