AID — It was a good win for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings. It was a milestone for coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

An 11-1six-inning win over the Northwest Lady Mohawks during Saturday’s Valley of Thunder annual softball classic gave Estep his 300th career victory, all with Symmes Valley.

Estep entered his 19th season with 295 wins.

“It was good to get it with this group. They’re a hard-working group. But you have to have a lot of good athletes over the years to get to this point,” said Estep. “You can’t win without them.”

The Lady Vikings lost 3-2 to Alexander on Friday afternoon, then bounced back to rout Rose Hill (Ky.) 10-0 on Saturday before beating Northwest.

“We did well, especially on Saturday. There were a lot of good games. One went 12 innings and three went into extra innings. It was another successful tournament,” said Estep.

“Our girls played well both days. We got back on track with our hitting and our pitching did well.”

On Friday, Alexander led 3-0 until the Lady Vikings rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Brooke Skinner walked, Haily Pelletier was safe on an error, and Libby Ash singled in a run. An overthrow on the play scored Pelletier.

In Saturday’s first game, the Lady Vikings scored seven runs in the first inning to decide the outcome.

Cheslea Wall doubled home two runs, Haily Pelletier had a two-run single and Erica Corn and Nikki Nance also doubled in the first inning uprising.

Nance got the win over Rose Hill. Corn went 3-4 while Nance and Wall each had two hits.

In the second game, Northwest took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning only to have the Lady Vikings tie the game in the bottom of the inning when Corn reached on an error, Nance walked and Skinner had an RBI single.

The Lady Vikings took the lead with four runs in the second inning.

Pelletier led off with a double and Julie Carter had a one-out single. Nance singled for a run, Jessie Morris reached on a missed third strike to score a run, and Wall cranked a two-run double.

In the fifth, Skinner singled and Pelletier had a two-out double.

The Lady Vikings ended the game with five runs in the sixth inning.
