PORTSMOUTH — George Fielding, Jr., 78, of Portsmouth, formerly of Ironton, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at SOMC in Portsmouth. The Detroit, Mich. native was born Feb. 8, 1931, the son of the late George and Kate Pollard Biggin Fielding. He was also preceded in death by his two wives, Georgetta Reed Fielding and Hattie Tolley Fielding, who died April 25, 2002.
Mr. Fielding attended Cleveland, Ohio, schools and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korea Era. He was a retired painter for Fielding Associates and he retired from the Portsmouth Times Daily Newspaper where he was a paper carrier. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, and wives, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Ann Melon.
He is survived by a daughter, Gloria Wood of Cleveland; a daughter and son-in-law: Ruth and Horace Crawford of Cleveland;
a son, George Michael Fielding of Cleveland; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Douglas and Kathy Fielding of Cleveland; a daughter, Rachel Fielding of Canton, N.C. a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Joe Moltrup of Liverpool, N.Y.;
a son, Phillip Fielding of Canton, N.C.; a daughter, Catherine Shope of Portsmouth; a brother, Harold Fielding of Parma; 32 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
