Ironton Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man found dead Wednesday at Advanced Machine and Fabrication on South Third Street.

Police Chief Jim Carey said the body of a white male in his mid 40s was found shortly after 2 p.m. by employees at the business. Carey declined to release the name of the individual or by what means the man had died.

According to the Ironton Police report, the man has been identified as Charles McFarland, of Ironton. A hand gun was found near the body.

“Homicide has been ruled and we do not believe it is suspicious,” Carey said.

Carey said the person was employed at Advanced Machine but had seen his hours cut back due to the economy.

“All indications were that he was a good employee,” Carey said.

The individual’s body was found by fellow employees in an upstairs room at the factory.

Carey said it is thought the death had occurred at least several hours before the body was found.
