Lady Vikings down Clay

AID — To the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, “quit” is one of those four-letter words.

After falling behind in the sixth inning, the Lady Vikings rallied to win 7-4 over the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers Wednesday in a key Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Our kids were scrappy tonight,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“(Clay) got four runs and we bounced right back and scored. Everybody contributed in our lineup.”

The game was scoreless until the third inning when the Lady Vikings scored twice.

Kayla Ross doubled to start the inning and Julie Carter hit into a fielder’s choice. Chelsea Keathley hit a sacrifice fly for the first run and Nikki Nance had an RBI single.

Clay scored four times to take the lead in the top of the sixth inning, but the Lady Vikings scored five times in the bottom of the inning.

Nance led off with a hit and Jessie Morris tripled for a run. Chelsea Wall was hit by a pitch and an out later Haily Pelletier hit into fielder’s choice. Ross reached on an error as a run scored.

Julie Carter had an RBI single, a throwing error advance the runners and Corn drove in a run with base hit.

Nance was 2-4 as the Lady Vikings had six hits.

Corn got the win in relief.

Symmes Valley (7-3, 4-1) hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame on Thursday.
