SOUTH POINT — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers know how to do two important things.
Okay, there’s a third. Win.
Chesapeake got good pitching and defense in a 3-0 win over the South Point Lady Pointers Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“Defensively, we made the plays when they put it in play and we got a well-pitched game. Any time you do those two things you’ve got a chance to win,” said Lady Panthers coach Aaron Rice.
Allison Chapman turned in another steller pitching performance to out-duel South Point’s Hannah Huron. Chapman struck out 14, did not walk a batter and allowed only a seventh inning single to Tausha Collins.
Huron gave up seven hits, fanned four and walked four.
Chesapeake scored all the game’s runs in the sixth inning.
Sarah Mayo started the inning with a one-out base hit. Sidney Boyle followed with a base hit and Courtney Heffner doubled.
Casey Kirk singled home Boyle and Caitlin Heffner delivered an RBI with her first career base hit.
Chesapeake (11-0, 4-0) plays at Green on Thursday.

After getting a big Southern Ohio Conference win over Portsmouth Clay on Wedneday, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were guilty of seven errors in a 6-5 upset loss to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans in nine innings on Thursday.

The loss drops Symmes Valley into third place. The Lady Vikings are 7-3 and 4-2 in the SOC.
The game was scoreless until the Lady Vikings scored four times in the fourth inning.
