HAVERHILL — Some experiments are done by Dr. Frankenstein while others are done by Albert Einstein.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers got to see the result of both types of experiments as they lost to Portsmouth 6-3 but beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 10-6 on Thursday.

Karlie Collins went the distance to beat Fairland. She struck out eight and walked four. She also doubled at the plate.

Emily Davis, Emily Lilly, Nikki Elswick, Jessica Brown and Janie Morris each had a hit for Ironton.

“We have been so inconsistent in the field and at bat that we are still working to find the best starting lineup,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“Tonight we had four different players playing a new position. The girls have to continue to gain self-confidence as the season progresses. I was very encouraged tonight by their effort.”

Fairland got a home run from Mackenzie Rucker who went 2-3.

On Wednesday, Ironton gave Morris her first career pitching assignment against Portsmouth.

“Janie has been working real hard at practice. She struggled in the first inning, but she shows promise as a pitcher as she continues to build endurance,” said Fields.

“Kylie Summers came in to finish the games and pitched very well. We just got the bats warmed up too late in the game.”

Jordan Scott and Morris each had doubles n the loss. Morris and Collins each went 2-3.
