Chapman pitches Lady Panthers past Green

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Another game, another stellar pitching performance.

Allison Chapman won another pitcher’s duel as she fired a one-hitter to beat the Green Lady Bobcats and pitcher Ali Thompson 5-0 on Friday.

“It was a good ball game. Chapman threw another go do game and Thompson threw a good game,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

Chesapeake got the only run it really needed in the second inning.

Sarah Rice had a two-out walk, stole second base, took third on a throwing error and came home on another error.

Myky Harmon belted a two-out home run in the fourth inning to make it 2-0.

The Lady Panthers scored two more runs in the fifth inning.

Chapman walked, stole second and moved to third when Nikki Lindsey was safe on an error. With runners at second and third, Sarah Mayo reached on an error as a run scored. Sidney Boyle then singled home Lindsey.

The final run came across in the seventh inning when Mayo singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out, and came across on a dropped pop fly.

Thompson struck out eight, walked three and gave up five hits in the loss.

“Ali pitched well, we just didn’t give her a lot of support,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

Abbey Barnett doubled in the first inning for Green’s lone hit.

Chesapeake (12-0) visits Gallipolis on Tuesday.
