The St. Joseph Flyers took a lot of little things, messed them together and got a big win.

The Flyers had six timely hits to back the one-hit pitching of Caleb Blackburn as they blanked the Sciotoville East Tartans 10-0 in six inning on Saturday.

“Our pitching was good and we parlayed our hits with some walks and errors and good baserunning to score 10 runs,” said Flyers’ coach Greg Bryant.

Blackburn struck out 11 and walked four to get the win.

The Flyers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Payton Blair walked, Chad Harvey was hit by a pitch, Blackburn walked, Tanner Riley hit into a fielder’s choice for a run, Pat Gagai walked and T.J. Young was safe on an error to score a run.

St. Joseph got five runs in the third inning.

Gagai and Young were safe on an errors and Unger had an RBI single. Anthony Whaley walked and Levi Hopkins had a two-run single. Blair grounded out for a run and Harvey capped the rally with a run-scoring single.

Two more runs scored in the fifth.

Blair singled, stole second and took third on an outfield error. Harvey walked and stole second and Caleb Blackburn had a two-run single.

The final run scored when Unger doubled, stole third and Hopkins put down a squeeze bunt.

St. Joseph belted 16 hits and rolled to an 18-2 win over the Hannan (W.Va.) Wildcats on Friday night.

“We put the ball in play and made things happen. Joe and Anthony threw the ball well for the first time out this season,” said Bryant.

St. Joseph had seven hits in the first inning as they scored 12 runs. Riley had a two-run single as the key blow.

The Flyers came back with six runs in the second inning with Zach Dalton getting a two-run single among the seven hits.

St. Joseph (8-0) visits Harvest Christian on Monday.
