COAL GROVE — Charles E. “Buddy” Lawless, 77, of Coal Grove, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.
The Ironton native was born Nov. 14, 1931, the son of George E. and C. Gertrude Scherer Lawless. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Snead Lawless, whom he married July 6, 1956.
He was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean War Era. He was a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and also Weber’s Florist and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 8850.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Webb and Rosemary Robinson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Mike and Diane Lawless of Houston, Texas, Danny Lawless of Coal Grove, Paul and Linda Lawless of Ironton and Jeff and Teresa Lawless of Ironton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Ed Hobson of Louisville, Ky., and Teresa and James Paul of Ashland, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, John “Pete” Lawless of Tooele, Utah and a sister, Patty Pancake of Ironton.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 8850.
