Pennington to be Magic 97.9 guest DJ

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Magic 97.9 and Miller in the Morning welcome’s this week’s Friday Guest DJ. Former Thundering Herd and current NFL QB Chad Pennington will join host JB Miller and co-host Jason Toy behind the microphone at 7:30 a.m.

Pennington, who had to cancel his visit earlier this month due to inclement weather, is all set to grab a microphone, spin his favorite songs and give away a autographed football to one lucky listener during the show.

Miller in the Morning kicked off his the Friday “Guest DJ” segment in March of 2008.

Miller welcomes all those with an interest in slipping behind a microphone for strictly fun, to contact him via station Web site at magic979.com or contacting him at WMGA/Magic 97.9 FM Radio at (304)399-9603. Future Guest hosts include Local Ghost buster Bill Sawyer on May 1.

Memorial bluegrass show set for May 9

CHESAPEAKE — The fifth annual Douglas J. Freeman Sr. Memorial Bluegrass Show, will be May 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Musical guests include The York Family and the Joe Freeman Bluegrass Band.

The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the former home of Doug and June Freeman.

Weather permitting, the event will be held outside.

Register for May 11 golf tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The annual Bernard L. Edwards Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Monday, May 11 at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington.

The 4-man scramble will include a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Farm Bureau to host Fun Night

KITTS HILL — The Lawrence County Farm Bureau is having a Fun Night Friday at 6 p.m. at Mamre Missionary Baptist Church.

The planned activities are a potluck with a dessert contest, games and door prizes.

Guests are asked to bring appetizers, finger foods, dessert for a contest and canned food item for the Farmers Feed Our Needs food drive.

Everyone is invited to come. If you are interested in Farm Bureau, bring your family and friends for an evening of entertainment and fun. Admission is free.
