GALLIPOLIS — If it is still working, why change?

The Chesapeake lady Panthers have used strong pitching and clutch hitting to stay unbeaten this season. They used the same formula again Tuesday to beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 2-1 Tuesday.

The pitching came from Allison Chapman who fashioned a one-hit, 15-strikeout performance to get the win.

“(Chapman) threw pretty well. She’s had better stuff, but she battled through it and pitched smart,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

“We didn’t have a lot of hits, but we were able to bunch things together and score enough to win and Chapman did the rest.”

The Lady Panthers did all their scoring in the top of the fourth inning.

Sarah Mayo had a one-out single to start the rally and Sidney Boyle followed with a walk. Courtney Heffner hit a deep fly out to centerfield that scored Mayo from second base. Hannah Henderson followed with a two-out, run-scoring single.

Gallipolis (10-4) got its run in the bottom of the inning when Alli Saunders reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a hit by Brittyn Saunders.

Morgan Leslie drew a one-out walk in the fifth inning for Gallipolis, but Chapman struck out the next eight batters she faced to clinch the Lady Panthers 13th win without a loss.

Mayo was the only multi-hit player at 2-3.

Chesapeake plays at Fairland on Wednesday.
