PROCTORVILLE — Fairland left runners, but not their game.

Despite leaving runners on base in almost every inning, the Fairland Dragons beat the Chesapeake Panthers 8-1 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We left all kinds of runners on base. One hit here or there and we blow the game open. We need to get more consistent at the plate,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

Fairland took a 2-0 lead in the first when Zach Jordan was hit by a pitch, Robbie Easterling walked, and after a double steal Zach Matasich had a two-run single.

Chesapeake got a run in the toop of the third on a hit by Brandon Noble, a walk to Matt Angle and Travis Zimmerman singled.

But the Dragons got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Tyler Thackston singled, Tyler Godby walked and Adam Berry singled.

The Dragons scored four times in the fourth to lead 7-1.

Jordan walked, Cole Hatfield had an RBI double and Easterling hit a two-run homer. Thackston doubled, moved up on a ground out and came home when Matasich grounded out.

Fairland got a run in the fifth when Chad Fisher singled, stole second and third, and scored when Jordan grounded out.

Fairland (8-1, 5-0) visits South Point on Friday.
