JACKSON — Ironton gave new meaning to being called “Hit Men.”

Josh Pancake and Geoff White cranked home runs and the Ironton Fighting Tigers banged out 15 hits en route to a 10-5 win over the Jackson Ironmen Wednesday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

“We hit the ball really well up and down the lineup,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. ‘That’s they way we’re capable of hitting the ball.”

White went 3-3, Ethan Preston 3-4, Zach Kriebel and Keith Wetzel 2-4 and Pancake 2-5 as eight different batters got hits.

White homered to start the second inning and the Fighting Tigers scored four more in the third inning.

Pancake had a one-out home run and it was 2-0. Wetzel, White, Preston, Jonathan Williams and Kriebel all singled to produce three runs.

Jackson got an unearned run in the fourth but Ironton answered with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Wetzel singled, White doubled and Preston had an RBI single. White scored on an outfield error and Preston came home on a wild pitch.

Jackson got three runs in its half of the inning, but Ironton pushed across two more runs in the sixth when Wetzel and White walked, Preston reached on an error and Kriebel grounded out.

Howie Lucas went four innings to get the win. He struck out 10, walked two and only two of the four runs he allowed were earned. Williams finished up and had five strikeouts, two walks and gave up one run on one hit.

Ironton is a Chillicothe on Thursday to complete a suspended game and to play a regularly scheduled game.
