CHILLICOTHE — Two runs meant two losses.
The third loss was just a bad day at the office.
The Ironton Fighting Tigers suffered two heartbreaking one-run losses to the Chillicothe Cavaliers Thursday at Memorial Stadium.
Chillicothe won the suspended game 8-7 in 10 innings, then came back to win the regularly scheduled game 5-4.
Friday’s game was totally in contrast. Ironton took an early lead only to have Gallipolis break the game open and cruise to a 16-5 win.
“We could easily have won either or both games against Chillicothe,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. “We’ve got to play with more grit.”
In Thursday’s regularly scheduled game, Josh Pancake pitched a five-hitter but took the loss as Chillicothe scored four unearned runs in the first inning. He struck out six and walked three.
Geoff White had a two-run homer in Ironton’s four-run sixth inning. Zach Kriebel doubled in a run and Howie Lucas singled in a run.
White hit two home runs in the loss to Gallipolis including a two-run shot in the first inning and a solo blast in the fifth.
Ironton led 4-0 after three innings before the roof came tumbling down on the Fighting Tigers as Gallipolis got nine runs in the fourth inning.
