CHESAPEAKE — Waste not, want not.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers just keep getting by on just enough including a 3-2 win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We got just enough to win. That’s the way it’s been going for us,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice. “Ali threw a good game. South Point did a good job of putting the ball in play.”
Allison Chapman struck out 13, did not walk a batter and allowed only four hits to get the win. South Point’s Hannah Huron fanned one and walked one while giving up six hits.
Chesapeake went up 1-0 in the first inning when Chapman singled, moved up on an outfield error and scored on a hit by Sarah Mayo.
South Point took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.
Courtney Koukos tripled and came home on a hit by Amy Lien and then Tausha Collins doubled home Lien.
The Lady Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Hannah Henderson was safe on an error but Casey Kirk hit into a fielder’s choice and moved to second on a throwing error. Myky Harmon followed with an RBI double.
Chesapeake got the winning run in the fifth with the Pointers help.
Mayo — who went 3-for-3 — doubled with one out. On a fly out to right field, Mayo went to third base. The relay throw to third base hit Mayo in the back and she scored as the ball rolled away from the third baseman.
Chesapeake (15-0, 6-0) hosts Huntington St. Joseph on Tuesday.
