PORTSMOUTH — Did the Ironton Fighting Tigers beat the Portsmouth Trojans on Monday? Well, Howie Lucas pitched for Ironton. Does that answer your question.

Lucas mastered the Trojans for the third time this season as he fashioned a four-hitter as the Fighting Tigers won 5-0 Monday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

Lucas struck out 12 and walked three in going the distance.

“It got hot and he was tired, but he gutted it out and finished,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. “He did a nice job again.”

Ironton jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning.

With one out, Johnathon Schweickart — who had two hits — reached on catcher’s interference, Keith Wetzel walked and they both came around to score on wild pitches.

The Fighting Tigers scored two more in the second inning to lead 4-0.

Darren Dalton was safe on an error, Tommy Waginger hit into a fielder’s choice, and Josh Pancake and Schweickart singled for a run. Pancake stole home for the other run.

The final run scored in the third. Jonathan Williams was safe on an error, Zach Kriebel reached on a missed third strike, and another error scored the run.

Ironton (6-9) plays at Jackson on Tuesday.
