PEDRO — Barry Litteral was looking for some pitchers. Enter C.J. Justice and Cody Massie.

Playing their third Ohio Valley Conference game in as many days, the Rock Hill Redmen were in desperate need of some pitchers to go against the Chesapeake Panthers.

Justice and Massie got the call and they teamed up to help the Redmen beat the Panthers 12-5 Wednesday. Only two of the runs they allowed were earned.

“Both of them threw well. They made them hit the ball and for the most part we made the plays. We had some lapses, but they made the pitches when they had to,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral.

“It was a big pickup for us. And we hit the ball well and that really helped.”

The Redmen took a 3-0 lead in the first inning aided by Massi’se two-run double.

Chesapeake got two runs in the second but the Redmen came right back with five runs in the third inning. Alex Bare had a three-run double in the inning and Herbie Butterbaugh followed with a suicide squeeze.

“The kids worked hard as a team. We have some versatility and it showed today,” said Litteral.

Bare was 4-4 to lead the 13-hit attack. Jeremy Blagg was 2-4 with a double.

Shane Pelfrey, Colton Lindsey and Jon Baise each went 2-4 to lead Chesapeake (3-13, 1-7).

Rock Hill (7-4, 5-3) visits Portsmouth Clay on Thursday. Chesapeake hosts River Valley on Friday.
