AID — The bats took over for the arms.
Symmes Valley’s pitching might have struggled, but the Vikings offense erupted in a 15-9 win over the Chesapeake Panthers on Thursday.
“We hit the ball pretty well,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “We had eight walks tonight and that was seven too many. Pitching is usually our strong point and it struggled, but our hitting picked it up.”
Cody Myers swung the big bat as he went 3-4 with two doubles and a home run. Jeremy Hatfield also had a home run while Cody Bland was 2-3 and Tyler Easthom and Dusty Wilson were 2-4.
Shane Pelfrey was 2-3 and Zach Harris doubled as the Panthers got eight hits.
Myers hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning as the Vikings scored six runs to take an 8-3 lead.
In the fifth, Chesapeake got four runs to get within 8-7 but Hatfield hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.
The Vikings had four doubles in the six-run sixth inning. Easthom and Robbie Powell had one double each and Myers hit a pair of doubles in the uprising.
Symmes Valley (12-1) plays at Portsmouth Clay on Friday.
