Blue Knights visit elderly mothers

They may look like a tough bunch, but they have a soft spot in their heart for Mom. And they proved it Saturday with a single red rose.

Members of the Blue Knights Kentucky Chapter VIII motorcycle club spent Saturday delivering a rose to each mother and grandmother at Jo-Lin Health Center, Woodland Oaks in Ashland Ky., and Morning Point in Russell, Ky.

The Blue Knights is a non-profit fraternal organization consisting of active and retired law enforcement men and women who enjoy riding motorcycles.

“One of our members who vacations in Myrtle Beach (S.C.) belongs to the Myrtle Beach club and said they do it down there and why shouldn’t we do it here?” Chapter VIII President Walt Curtis explained. “And we thought it was a great idea. If it wasn’t for mothers, we wouldn’t be here, would we?”

This is one of the organization’s many community outreach programs. The goal is to develop a fraternal spirit between law enforcement personnel and the general public.
